Lets make geometry and learning right triangles easy. You want to start with the basic Pythagorean theorem. Click here to see a 60 second video on how to solve for the hypotenuse. Now solve three easy problems. Remember to post your answers.
OK Alesha. It really is easier than you think. I also wrote the problems to have a whole answer. Nothing with square roots yet. We'll get there soon though. If my resource kidos can do it you can too. Write back if you have questions.
"a" squared plus "b" squared equals "c" squared. a = 6 and b = 8 so 36 + 64 = "c" squared. 100 = "c" squared. What number times itself is 100? The answer is 10! Now try the other two yourself. You can do it.
Jennifer, I am afraid I have posted my message to you on my blog... and some of your page is showing on my blog. What a mess. I need to find out what I did. By the way great Blog. Rita
Thanks David. 15 year olds are the best resource I know for this kind of stuff. Try it yourself first. "a" squared plus "b" squared equals "c" squared. a = 6 and b = 8 so 36 + 64 = "c" squared. 100 = "c" squared. What number times itself is 100? The answer is 10! Have your 15 year old check your answers.
Just thinking about this made my head spin...I will try though (after a couple of Diet Cokes!).

ReplyDeleteA written description for solving problem #1.
ReplyDelete"a" squared plus "b" squared equals "c" squared.
a = 6 and b = 8 so
36 + 64 = "c" squared.
100 = "c" squared.
What number times itself is 100?
The answer is 10!

I am lucky that my husband is a math teacher. With a quick lesson from him I was able to find the answers. They are 10, 13, and 15.
ReplyDeletePerfect! Thanks for playing.

ReplyDeleteI think I need to ask my 15 year old for help on these. Great idea for a blog.
